RESEARCH AREA 01Seismic resilience with GFRP reinforcement

Multi-hazard resilience with advanced materials and systems

Developing durable, seismically resilient structures with FRP and SFCB reinforcement, UHPC, and innovative structural systems.

SELECTED PROJECT

Seismic resilience with GFRP reinforcement ↗

How can durable GFRP reinforcement be used in earthquake-resisting concrete systems while accounting for its material behavior and system-level demands?

An extensive, ongoing research program

The program spans member modeling, cyclic bond and anchorage, beam–column connection experiments, system-level analysis, and the development of design provisions. It addresses the gap between component evidence and the seismic behavior of complete structural systems.

Research context: McGill University program. Yi Shao, PI; Yazhou (Tim) Xie and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, Co-PIs. Project advisor: Gregory G. Deierlein, Stanford University.

Combined program, fellowship, and industrial support exceeds CAD $800,000, including ACI NEx, NSERC, Mitacs, FRQNT, and MST Rebar. This support relates to the existing collaborative program.
